Anyone who is studying to be an RN is no doubt wondering about what will be included in the NCLEX RN Questions when they take the exam, and trying to do their best to prepare for this all important exam. The exam varies from test to test, so you can never be sure exactly what NCLEX RN Questions will be on the exam when you take it.
The exam varies from having 85 to 205 NCLEX RN Questions, of which 15 are unscored pretest questions. Regardless of how many questions are included on the exam, the time limit is always six hours. And this six hours includes all the time spend during the tutorial and sample questions as well as any optional breaks that you might decide to take.
The test varies based on the individual. You might spend more or less time on the questions than other people. Also, after a certain number of NCLEX RN Questions have been answered there is a check to see whether or not it is possible for the candidate to receive a passing score. If so, then the questions continue until the maximum number of questions has been answered or until the time runs out. The NCLEX RN Questions are adaptive, which means that when you get questions wrong you then get an easier question which is worth fewer points. Correct answers get you questions of equal or higher difficulty which are worth more points and increase your likelihood of getting a passing score. Because of this, you need to always read questions carefully and answer with some thought rather than randomly guessing. Topics included in the exam include Basic Care and Comfort, Health Promotion and Maintenance, Management of Care, Pharmacological and Parenteral Therapies, Psychosocial Integrity, Physiological Adaptation, Reduction of Risk Potential, and Safety and Infection Control. The number of questions asked in each area varies, but there are some areas from which a higher percentage of questions are asked, such as Management of Care, Pharmacological and Parenteral Therapies, and Reduction of Risk Potential. The majority of the questions will be in multiple choice format, but there are other formats that are now being used as well for some of the questions, including questions using charts, tables, or graphics. There are some websites that make sample questions available, although many of them charge for this information. There are also exam preparation courses that you can take to try to improve your chances of passing.
